Leadership

Tom Fairbanks built VECA on a straightforward principle: create an environment where people can reach their full potential, and they will, in turn, build a great company. After earning a BS in Accounting from Washington State University, Tom worked at Arthur Andersen before purchasing VECA in 1989, determined to integrate his personal core values into a company of his own. VECA’s success is rooted in his commitment to those values, alongside strong business practices and integrity. Outside of work, Tom is actively involved in his church and enjoys traveling to Hawaii, golfing, reading, and spending time with his wife Debi, his five children and of December 2024 his 14 grandchildren.

Dave Reed brings a wealth of domestic and international experience to his role, having worked with major industrial and commercial organizations like KBR, Halliburton, Shell, Chevron, BP, and Conoco throughout his career. As CEO, he oversees VECA’s executive management and vision, using his energetic, honest, and straightforward leadership style to achieve the company’s objectives while staying true to VECA’s core values. Dave and his wife, Leanna, have three sons, and outside of work, he enjoys snowboarding, off-road motorcycling, golfing, and fishing.

As VECA’s Chief Information Officer, Matt Fairbanks oversees the development, design, operation, and continuous improvement of the company's IT systems and processes. Under his leadership, VECA’s project teams leverage technology on jobsites to enhance efficiency and deliver greater value to clients. Matt is committed to ensuring that information technology supports the success of project operations and empowers VECA’s employees. A strong advocate for innovation, he keeps VECA at the forefront of technological advancements in the electrical industry. Outside of work, Matt spends a lot of time outdoors with his wife Kimberly, and their four daughters.

With over two decades of Engineering, Construction and General Management experience, Bruce Mackenzie brings a unique perspective to his role as VECA’s President. Bruce’s focus is ensuring VECA has the necessary operational support systems, controls, and plans in place to drive long term growth. Prior to joining VECA, Bruce was with Massy Group, a publicly traded group of businesses where he managed large multinational EPC client accounts in the Energy business and later at the Group center he developed and supported the implementation of growth and improvement strategies for over 40 different businesses. In his free time, Bruce enjoys powerboating, fishing, golfing and spending time with his wife Tara, and their son and daughter.

Laura Rannow’s career at VECA spans over two decades, and her broad experience allows her to understand the inner workings of VECA’s operations and advocate for the needs and success of its people. Laura plays a key role in shaping VECA’s corporate culture and administrative processes. Laura loves to travel, serves on the leadership team at her church, and enjoys spending time with her husband, Dave, their six children, and four grandchildren.

Jesse Chapman brings a wealth of experience to his role as Chief Operating Officer at VECA, with a career in electrical construction that spans nearly three decades. Jesse’s diverse background equips Jesse with a deep understanding of what it takes to achieve operational excellence in the industry. As COO, Jesse is dedicated to setting high standards and establishing efficient processes that enable VECA’s project teams to thrive. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah and two boys, engaging in outdoor activities, and spending some quality time on the golf course.

With a wealth of experience in electrical construction, Keith Conti plays a pivotal role in supporting VECA projects through strategic guidance and leadership. Over his career, he has cultivated strong customer relationships, built talented teams, and consistently found innovative ways to expand VECA’s influence in the Northwest. Keith is responsible for obtaining and maintaining compliance with our 19 individual State Electrical Contracting Licenses. Keith is married to Valerie and have two adult children. You can find Keith out enjoying a hike in the mountains, fishing, or golfing.

A proud alumnus of Purdue University, Kyle Butler is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in corporate law and compliance. In his role as Chief Legal Officer, Kyle oversees all legal affairs, ensuring that the company adheres to industry regulations while also supporting strategic business initiatives. Outside of work, Kyle enjoys spending quality time with his wife Lauren, and two children. You can also find Kyle either participating in or enjoying various sporting events.

With expertise in finance and accounting, James has held leadership positions in the engineering, procurement, construction management, and power management industries. His background also includes experience in public accounting, where he provided assurance and transaction advisory services to large multinational clients. This diverse experience equips James with unique insight in overseeing VECA’s financial operations, ensuring stability and strategic growth. Outside of work, James enjoys exploring the great outdoors in the Seattle area with his wife, Hannah, and their three children.

Over the course of his career, Travis has constructed large-scale medical projects that require expertly planned work occurring near sensitive, fully active medical operations. He adds value in collaborative projects by bringing integral knowledge to the design and construction team, leading to efficient scheduling and high-quality installations.

During Mike’s 20+ year career in telecommunications enterprise account management, he has worked on projects for high tech companies, health care, education, public sectors, and all-encompassing campus environments. He is experienced in cabling systems including Cat6, Cat 6A, and both Singlemode and Multimode fiber optic systems and manages projects with a range of delivery models. Mike and his longtime wife are parents to three grown sons, and he enjoys traveling, golf, and new adventures. He is also recognized as an award-winning magician and is a sleight of hand expert and loves performing amazing feats of close up magic.

Andrew holds a Master of Science in Finance from Pacific Lutheran University and brings a depth of industry finance experience including senior housing, construction, and development. Previously he was the Regional Finance Manager for SEFNCO. In his current role as the Director of Financial Operations for VECA, he supports the WIP process and provides analysis in various capacities. In his free time Andrew enjoys cooking, smoking meats, and spending time outdoors.

Ken is an active leader recognized for successfully completing multiple large-scale projects built on tight, logistically challenged sites—with a recent focus on urban higher education and research laboratory projects. As a Senior Project Manager, Ken brings his many years of industry experience to each project with a focus on constructability, sustainability, safety, and value-added recommendations. Ken also has his RCDD and LEED certifications.

Shawn started out as an installer back in 1996 and gained valuable field experience working on a broad range of systems, including phone programming, paging systems, voice and data cabling installation, troubleshooting, testing, and design assistance. Currently, his focus is on low voltage cabling projects ranging from small service calls to large-scale, multi-floored new construction projects. He spends most of his free time with his wife Jamie and helping chauffer and support his daughter Makenzie in her dance team adventures, as well as her patient ambassador duties with Seattle Children’s Hospital (as she is a pediatric stroke survivor of 7 plus years), and when time allows, keeping up with collegiate and professional football.

Jake’s career has crossed over a wide range of industries, from commercial fishing to petrochemical to pharmaceutical companies, where he gained diverse experience in MEP Installations, QA/QC & Commissioning, Construction Management, and Safety Program Development. As Director of Business Development, Jake assists each division at VECA to foster new and existing client relationships in conjunction with the company’s strategic planning initiatives. Jake and his wife Kylee have two sons. He enjoys boating, fishing, snowboarding, golf and watching his boys compete in sports.

As Operations Manager for the Professional Services group, Kylee has developed in-depth knowledge of the oil and gas industry by spending time in refineries, collaborating with clients, and supporting our team. She leverages her exceptional team building and customer service skills to maintain a high standard of operational efficiency, leading teams across multiple locations while adhering to strict refinery regulations. Outside of work, she enjoys the busy basketball schedules and loves spending time boating out in the San Juan Islands with her two boys and husband.

VECA’s prefabrication efforts. By blending his working installation knowledge along with manufacturing principles, he streamlined processes to provide fabricated assemblies for VECA’s largest projects. His customer service-oriented approach is at the heart of how he manages his teams, which include fabrication, warehouse, GREAT Tools, and fleet. These critical services complement our onsite teams, supporting the field to complete projects on time and budget. Shawn and his wife Debbie are proud parents of a daughter and son. When not at work, Shawn enjoys hiking, fishing and pickleball.

With over three decades of experience in heavy industry management, Mike brings a perspective formed from work both in the United States and international locations (South Africa and the Caribbean), as well as consulting for several respected firms. As the Professional Services General Manager, Mike is responsible for maintaining a most reliable temporary staffing experience while helping clients find needed Subject Matter Experts and Technical Resource candidates for critical industrial roles.

Jim’s career spans over four decades with electrical expertise in healthcare, commercial and industrial construction, including some of VECA’s largest and most complex projects to date, including the Swedish North Tower project. His input and leadership help the team maximize efficiency in their processes, identify constructability concerns, and deliver overall value to each project. Jim and his wife Teresa are proud parents 2 daughters and have 4 granddaughters. In his spare time Jim enjoys skiing, fishing, boating, and motorcycle riding where he has experienced a full tour around Italy, exploring the Andes Mountains and Patagonia in Chile and Argentina, and up and down the Baja Peninsula.

Neil has been in the industry since 1994 and his cost estimating experience covers a wide range of projects ranging from healthcare, education, commercial, and mixed-use residential. He has knowledge in competitive market pricing for different delivery models including GCCM/ECCM, Design-Build, and Design-Assist. As Chief Estimator, Neil is responsible for leading the estimating team by overseeing pricing efforts and reviewing them for accuracy and completeness. Neil & his wife Racquel have four children and enjoy family, travel, gardening and have a sports card/memorabilia side business as a hobby.

During his time in the field, Andy worked on significant and complex collaborative delivery projects ranging from medical centers to key infrastructure developments. This informs his approach to lead VECA’s field operations, efficiently staffing projects to keep projects on schedule.

Matt started in the electrical industry as a field engineer working on a security system upgrade at SeaTac Airport, and since then has been a part of many wide-ranging projects from corporate office campuses and tenant improvements to sporting venues, cruise ship shore power, and high-end housing. His current focus brings his experience full circle, back working at SeaTac airport, where he incorporates VECA’s values into every aspect of his projects. Matt and his wife Julie have three daughters, and in 2024 became grandparents to twin girls, Isla and Raya. In his free time Matt likes to backpack, snow ski and do home projects at both his own and daughters’ homes.

Scott has significant experience in the AEC industry, ranging from full-charge bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and human resources. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing the weekly payrolls of our employees in both office and field, maintaining adherence to all payroll-related local, state, and federal tax law requirements, and reporting to all union local jurisdictions in which we perform work. Scott grew up on a family farm before moving to the ‘big city’, and he and his wife Sheryl have three adult children and two teenage grandchildren. In his spare time, he supports local & community theatres and enjoys a multitude of hobbies from pottery/ceramics to stained glass to sewing to painting.

Mason has extensive experience managing diverse projects for the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and various private and commercial sectors. As a Project Executive for VECA’s Mission Critical Division, he oversees data center construction with a focus on strategy, team development, client engagement, financial oversight, and safety. Known for his lean and forward-thinking leadership style, Mason is dedicated to building strong, effective teams. Outside of work, Mason and his wife Krista cherish time with their four children and wonderful grandchildren. He enjoys fishing, camping, and making lasting memories with his family.

Diane earned her Bachelors Degree in Accounting and over her 30-year career she has worked in every aspect of construction from material suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and property owners—giving her a unique perspective. She is responsible for Financial Reporting and managing the accounting team, including developing and maintaining policies and procedures, improving processes, and providing financial transparency. Diane truly loves her role and is an enthusiastic leader, fostering a team environment by prioritizing mentorship and leading by example with accountability and honesty. Diane and her husband Jason are often found on the soccer field cheering on their son who plays. She enjoys crafting and spending time with friends and family.

Jayme has a passion for complex projects, with a large portion of her career having focused on challenging healthcare projects. As a Senior Project Manager, she uses her collaborative approach with clients, owners, and trade partners on Transportation Infrastructure projects, focusing on schedule management, impact tracking, fire alarm and low voltage coordination. Jayme moved to Seattle from San Diego and is happy to be back in the PNW after growing up in Idaho. She and her husband Jason are proud parents of three adult sons. In her free time, Jayme enjoys quilting and exploring the PNW with their black lab.

Sandy’s longstanding career has led to completing some of VECA’s most prominent and challenging projects, including the Summit building (1.5 million SF Seattle Convention Center Addition). She is also experienced in large-scale healthcare construction, and provides value to projects through her leadership, ability to provide constructability input, and solution-oriented team approach. Sandy and her husband Dan enjoy spending time with family and look forward to continuing travelling the world. In her free time, she can often be found reading a book and spending as much time as possible with her two children and five grandchildren.

Rustin has over 21 years of management experience in every facet of Transportation Infrastructure electrical. As a Division Manager, he brings structure and innovative solutions to the unique challenges our customers face when operating a 24-7 campus or facility. He serves as steward to the customer experience, providing a transparent and inclusive approach to VECA’s “value-added” partnerships. Rustin’s practical and engineering experience affords him the ability to streamline the most difficult and complex constructability challenges. He also smokes a mean brisket. You can often find him behind the grill at appreciation and abundance events since his love language is "acts of service".

Jacob has been crucial to growing our in-house VDC team and improving their capabilities to better support our projects. He specializes in coordinating intricate and specialized systems in complex critical environments. As the VDC Team Manager, he regularly engages in extensive continuing education opportunities that keep VECA on the cutting edge of the latest technologies and techniques in virtual 3D design and construction.

Dedicated to a proactive approach to safety, Shane oversees development, training, and implementation of safety policies and project safety management processes. His passion for our team’s wellbeing cultivates a safety culture that empowers team members to succeed while executing complex projects safely. Shane and his wife Annie are proud parents of two amazing children. When not working Shane enjoys hiking, snowboarding, and traveling with his family.

Prior to working in construction, Justin’s seven years of experience in program management and supply chain at a large aerospace engineering and lean manufacturing company taught him the importance of operational efficiency, accuracy, and quality. Managing Boeing related scopes for VECA, he draws on this experience to create maximum value to general contractors, or when acting as the prime contractor to Boeing directly, on complex projects within active industrial facilities without disrupting ongoing operations. At home, Justin and his wife Rose try to keep up with their three children between sporting events, robotics club, or biking around the trail system.

Colin brings a unique perspective to projects thanks to his experience as a general contractor and building owner. This multifaceted background allows him to offer valuable insights into each project. He approaches his work with an infectious positive attitude and a high level of accountability. His areas of focus are preconstruction and supporting our teams as a senior project manager. Colin and his wife Breeze live in Bellingham and have two sons. He enjoys fishing, cooking and always has a good story to tell.

Kurt employs a very hands-on management style on every project he is a part of. He prefers spending a good portion of his Kurt’s leadership approach is shaped by his previous construction career working in the field, and he employs a hands-on management style on every project he is a part of to support the team. Kurt’s attentiveness and proactivity onsite, while being communicative with the project leadership, helps solve problems before they can negatively affect the project’s schedule or budget. His approach is focused on building lasting team relationships with the owners and contractors. When not running projects, he is busy with his wife and two kids somewhere in the wilderness hiking, mountain biking, or fishing.

Over the course of Molly’s career, her focus on Design-Build delivery projects is a testament to her collaborative project management style. Her expertise is in large-scale, complex facilities for research and development, high tech, and life science work. Additionally, Molly can perform as the Electrical Designer of Record which expedites the electrical engineering process and informs the design team with valuable input. In her role as a Senior Project Manager, Molly’s responsibilities range from conceptual design and planning to daily project management. Molly enjoys spending time at the beach, rain or shine, and exploring the outdoors with her daughter.

Dave started in electrical construction in 1994 with All Phase Electric, gaining valuable experience with vendors and electrical contractors which helps inform his current role as Purchasing Manager at VECA. Leading the purchasing team, Dave oversees the procurement of materials and equipment, providing cost efficiency and timely delivery to support VECA's projects. Dave and his longtime wife Laura are proud parents of six and grandparents of four. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and serving at church. You can often catch him in front of his smoker, cooking for family and friends.

With over 300 airport projects completed over a four-decade career, Mark specializes in keeping airports operational and disruption-free during critical upgrades. He is passionate about helping our teams anticipate challenges, mitigate risks, and consistently achieve schedule and budget goals.

Combining a lifetime appreciation of design, typography, and symmetry, Isabel studied graphic design and leverages her corporate branding, communications, and pursuit development skills as a professional services marketer for architectural and construction/general contracting companies. As Marketing Director, she guides the marketing team’s execution plan in support of VECA’s overall positioning strategy; as well as facilitating pursuit processes alongside business development and divisional leadership. In her spare time, you’ll likely find her in the sunniest spot on the deck or cheering on her son in soccer. She and her husband Joel treasure time spent together, whether golfing, mountain biking, traveling, or sharing a meal with friends and family.

Ava brings over thirty years of experience, her background includes experience in risk management, analysis, planning, and regulatory compliance across manufacturing, agriculture, aerospace, and construction industries. In her current role as VECA’s Corporate Claims Director, she has been highly successful managing our Workers’ Compensation and Fleet management programs. She believes that taking good care of people is smart business. She fosters an environment of trust and caring throughout the claims process to generate positive outcomes, which also contributes to VECA’s recognition as having one of the lowest EMR’s in Washington and in the top 5% of safest companies in the nation. Ava lives in Lacey, Washington with her husband Chuck and cats Samuel L Cat and Rocket J Cat along with Bella the dog. They love to travel and explore, trying new restaurants and making new friends along the way.

Throughout his career, Jared is known for his innovative spirit and open communication, often finding creative solutions that exceed expectations. This is the foundation of his operational mindset for the Bellingham office, where he is responsible for oversight of all regional projects and continues to develop teams and client relationships. Jared and his wife Courtney enjoy spending time outside with their two kids. They have grown especially fond of Yellowstone National Park over the last few years and spend a lot of time exploring all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Eric leverages his program management and operations experience to oversee several of the largest electrical projects in VECA’s history. He sponsored the development of the Mission Critical Division’s project planning and controls program, which includes integrated estimating, scheduling, earned value management, quality assurance and commissioning to exceed performance benchmarks.

Wendy studied business management and HR at Washington State University and worked in HR for several other industries focusing on hiring, recruiting, and benefits prior to joining VECA. As VECA has grown, Wendy’s role is critical to both welcoming new employees and helping all employees understand and utilize their benefits package throughout their tenure. Her priority is spending time with her husband Travis, their daughter and son, and mini-Aussie. She loves the outdoors, hiking, anywhere near a river - her happy place, pickleball, watching football and traveling.

Chris is the third generation in his family to pursue a career in the electrical industry and since joining VECA, he has led multiple Baggage Handling System projects at SEA, where his expertise and dedication have been key to successful project completions. Chris guides the successful execution of each project from start to finish as part of the Transportation & Infrastructure leadership, collaborating closely with Rustin McIntyre and Mark Redland. Together, they are responsible for comprehensive project oversight, which includes strategic planning, effective resource allocation, and client and customer engagement. Beyond his professional life, Chris enjoys exploring new destinations with his wife, Alicia. He’s also passionate about snowboarding, golfing, and fishing.

Joshua is a Master Electrician with over three decades of experience in commercial, industrial, and residential electrical construction and maintenance, where he has honed his technical and leadership skills to provide an environment focused on safety, quality, and professionalism. Currently Joshua oversees operations and management of the Boise office and offers leadership as the Senior Project Manager for VECA’s Special Projects division. Joshua and his wife Eileen enjoy the peaceful life of living on Whidbey Island where they both grew up and raised their own family. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and helping others find and pursue their passions.

Justin has worked in the electrical industry since 2001, specializing in Design-Build projects with a proactive and collaborative delivery approach, leveraging the benefits of active preconstruction involvement to complete projects on time, on budget, and safely. As Project Executive, Justin is responsible for the strategic planning and overall execution of a project through clear lines of communication; while keeping client expectations, vision, and values at the forefront of each unique build. He takes great pride in leading his team while empowering each individual to reach their full potential. Justin has been married to his high school sweetheart Cori for 27 years, and he enjoys golfing and dirt biking with his two sons.

Starting his career as an intern in January 2012, Brian has spent his entire professional journey with VECA, gaining experience in both the public and private sectors. Significant projects include light rail stations and large-scale, luxury mixed-use developments throughout the Puget Sound region. In his current role, Brian oversee VECA’s largest contract and operations in the Boise region, helping extend VECA’s culture within these project teams. Outside of work, he cherishes spending time with my wife, Janet, and their two children, with a third on the way. I enjoy skiing, golfing, and distance running, and always strive to balance my professional and personal life with the same dedication.

Jessie brings an up-to-date understanding of market conditions, industry trends, and trade practices, enabling him to provide insight into valuable cost savings and eliminate potential risks. As the Technologies Operations Manager, he oversees all avenues of the Technologies Division by working directly with each member of the team on a daily basis. Jessie enjoys the outdoors and fishing when he gets the chance, but also loves spending time at home—whether building computers or spending quality time with the family.

Mark’s collaborative approach to projects stems from his varied background spanning over four decades, having held positions in the field, estimating, and management on a wide range of project types. His current focus is on significant, complex projects at the Port of Seattle, overseeing multiple teams with highly collaborative delivery models such as EC/CM and Progressive Design-Build. Mark and his wife Kris are proud parents and grandparents with two daughters and soon-to-be three grandchildren. When he’s not onsite, he enjoys kayaking and fishing while at his place in Port Ludlow and quality time with his grandkids.

Brad is a graduate of the Puget Sound JATC and holds a 01-electrician license, a Bachelor of Science degree in finance, and an MBA. Since starting his career as an electrical apprentice, Brad has worked in various roles ranging from Project Engineer, Estimator, Sr. Project Manager, Preconstruction Manager, and Preconstruction Director prior to being appointed as Operations Manager. In this role, he is responsible for management and operations and delivering on VECA’s commitments to its clients. Brad enjoys a fulfilling family life with his wife, Liz, and their four children—two boys and two girls. He spends time away from work camping, golfing, running, skiing, and being involved with his children’s sporting activities.

Before stepping into his current role as a Preconstruction Manager, Joe built a strong foundation in the industry as a field electrician. This hands-on experience provides him with a deep understanding of design, budgeting, constructability, and the cost implications of design decisions. He leverages this expertise to strategically lead VECA’s preconstruction efforts, customizing processes to align with each project's and client’s specific needs while positioning the construction team for success from project inception. Joe, his wife Kristina, and their daughter enjoy cruising the Puget sound in the summer and chasing fresh snowfall in the winter.

Mark’s background prior to joining VECA was in telecom, cellular, computers and networking. As the IT Director, he sets the team’s strategy in alignment with VECA’s growth and oversees the organization's diverse IT infrastructure. Having vision, scalability, and staying nimble keeps IT relevant and reactive to current technology trends. Mark is a proud parent of two daughters that unwittingly keep him in check. In his spare time, he prefers to be unplugged and on some outdoor adventure.

Rick’s career began as a paramedic before switching industries to work for a major telecommunications company installing DSL. He then founded and operated an electrical contracting business from for eight years and also has experience managing cell site construction projects. At VECA, Rick manages the Service Department and the Electric Vehicle Charging group, overseeing daily operations with a focus on process improvement and business development. He is a proud father of a daughter studying nursing at Baylor University, and enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, and traveling.
